Sonam debuted in Bollywood with Ranbir Kapoor in Saawariya (2007). While she has done two films so far, Ranbir has done six. Deepika Padukone, who debuted around the same time with Om Shanti Om, has done 7.
Sonam – who set out to be a director or script writer, but ended up being an actress – says she doesn’t want to be in a rat race. She is just happy to have remained busy.
“I don’t remember sitting home because ever since Saawariya released, I’ve been working,” she tells Hyderabad Times.
“I don’t like over-working myself. For an actor it’s important to sit back and think as to what you want to do next. I want to be an actor for the rest of my life even when I’m married with kids so I’m going to do it at my own pace.”
Sonam will be next seen in I Hate Love Stories opposite Imran Khan. The film releases in theatres on July 2.
Unabashedly, Sonam admits that she was thrilled about Imran Khan’s presence in the film when opting for the project.
Sonam’s thrill was purely professional, since Imran has been in a steady eight year long relationship with girlfriend Avantika, and is engaged to be married to her. Not in a steady relationship was the young director of the film, Punit Malhotra. Inevitably Sonam was romantically linked to him during the filming of the project.
We say inevitably because the beautiful and talented actress was earlier romantically linked with Ranbir Kapoor during Saawariya and Cyrus Sahukar during Delhi-6. There is a new linkup with every film.
Sonam remains chilled about her frequent linkups.
“Come on, I’m a young girl and I’m allowed to have my share of link-ups. It’s not like I’m a nun, she says. Dad would get upset initially because in his days things were different, but now he is cool. He’s taught me how to be a professional and that takes care of most rumors.”
Sonam is currently on set for Mausam in Edinburgh, Scotland. The film additionally headlines Shahid Kapoor and we are not suggesting that Sonam will be next linked to him.
